A Mom Moment

Hello World!

2,4,6,8,9,10 is the way my son first started counting. Now he goes 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. I'm so proud of him. I'm going to have to get him a special present. He is a bright boy. What I love most about him is that he loves learning and takes it upon himself to practice without being prompted. On many occsions I did not count with him or say the alphabets with him and when I go into his room in the mornings before breakfast he would have advanced in the alphabets or numbers. He always amazes me.

"You will be amazed at what your little one can do" is the motto of the Preschool Prep Company. They are so right about that. I use their DVDs with my toddler and in no time at all he was recognizing his numbers, letters, shapes, and colors. I used to teach him these things before the video so he had some knowledge already, but the videos helped to make him a more independent learner, and he loves to show that he can be independent in everything. Along with these Preschool Prep Company DVDs I also use Leap Frog 's "The Amazing Alphabet Amusement Park" and "Numbers Ahoy" DVDs.

What learning aids do you use with your preschooler? I would love it if you would share how you and your toddler learn together.

  1. I guess the primary learning: aids" I used was story books. I read and still read to them constantly. I'm determined to instill in them the love of the written word that hopefully is at least equal to their love of computer games!

  2. I made up a little song about books:

    "B-o-o-k-s (repeat twice)
    I like to read (repeat twice)
    Books."

    My oldest always has his head in a book.

    Oh! Then there is this one:

    "Books are for reading not for eating."

    LOL! You know how babies chew on everything. This was for those days.
